Volcano park transfer
From Reykjavík to Keflavík Airport
We will explore craters, continental boundaries, lava fields and other geological wonders on the Reykjanes peninsula on your way to the airport. The Reykjanes peninsula is unique for being the only (accessible) place on earth where you can see a palagonite ridge crawl onto the shore. The Reykjanes peninsula has been defined as a GeoPark. It became a part of the European Geoparks Network in 2015 and is a part of the UNESCO Global GeoPark conservation program.
You will get the opportunity to walk from Europe to America and back again in a minute or two crossing the bridge between the continents that has been constructed over the boundary of the two tectonic plates.
The formation of Iceland can be explained by volcanic activity caused by a magma hotspot located under the tectonic plate boundaries. The magma hotspot lifts the sub-oceanic plate to form land. It also fuels the volcanic systems on the island, leading to frequent eruptions.
Due to volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula in the recent past and potential eruptions in the near future, our route for this trip may vary due to temporary road closures. We will see new ground generated by the recent eruptions in the vicinity of the Blue Lagoon.
Your driver will pick you up at your selected location in Reykjavík at your chosen time. The journey is around one and a half hour. Therefore we recommend leaving Reykjavík 3,5 hours before your plane is scheduled to depart.
