Dry Suit Course & Dive Silfra: 2-day combo
If you are a certified diver lacking the dry suit experience required to dive in Silfra, this one’s for you. During a two day combo you will learn the skills needed to dive in the cold waters of the north and then dive Silfra on day two. You will be safe in the hands of an experienced PADI dry suit instructor. The course is held daily by a 5-star PADI dive centre. A minimum of 2 divers are needed for the course to take place. Please get in touch with us, even if you are alone, as we may be able to pair you with another student.
In this PADI speciality course you will learn a new set of skills. Such as how to control your bouyancy inflating and deflaiting your dry suit instead of the BCD. How to get air out of your boots so you don’t risk floating up with legs first!
Please be aware that dry suit diving is physically very demanding in the comparison to wet suit diving. The course includes multiple dives in cold waters and will bring your diving skills to another level. You will understand why the nordic divers sometimes, as a tease, nickname the tropical once cocktail divers.
The minimum requirement to take part in this course is PADI Open Water certification or an equivalent certification from another scuba program. Before you come to Iceland you should complete the online E-learing part. The course consist of a confined water session (swimming pool) and two open water dry suit dives. On the second day you will be diving in Silfra.
After compleating the dry suit course you are welcome to dive in Silfra. The water is pristine, clear groundwater streaming into the lava ravine where you hover between the continental plates. The underground water streams have travelled through the lava for decades before coming into the ravine, where you can slowly drift through and enjoy visibility that is as good as it can be. In fact, your visibility will not be limited by sediments and particles but by the landscape itself: the continental plate edges. The water is cold, around 4°C, and thats why you will need the dry suit to stay warm and dry.
